Fast Food Nation-The Movie

I'm not sure I need to say more since this is a constantly re-occurring topic on Stuntmom. Should be something for all to see (can we take our kids?). I know the tours of the meat packing industry alone will curb your need for the golden arches.
Okay, that's disgusting. You just made up my mind... my kids are going to Waldorf school.
What does Waldorf school have to do with fast food? Can't "avoid fast food" values be taught to children who attend public schools?
Whole foods are a strong component of the Waldorf curriculum, as is the preparation of that food. Unfortunately, public school children are bombarded with a lot more junk food from vending machines and school cafeterias... have you seen the movie "Supersize Me"? That one illustrates my point, I think.
Interesting. At least in Maine, the soda vending machines are soon to become a thing of the past. Legislature has been passed to ban them in the public schools. If we could all work together to get crappy food out of all schools, think how many children would benefit - not just the ones whose parents can afford to send them to private schools. Healthy food choices are so important - I worry about the young kids who, because of their income level, qualify for free lunches and breakfasts at school EVERY DAY!! I saw Supersize Me (with StuntMom!). Those kids don't even have a chance. They're not seeing whole foods at home, and it's no better at school. Change needs to happen.
Home school. It's the only way to avoid this issue. Do you have what it takes to be with your kids all day until they are 18?
Nope, I sure don't have it in me. My mom was trying to convince me to homeschool, but no, it's just not me. I don't really want to avoid the food issues, I want to guide them to make the right decisions, to understand and avoid "bad" food, to enjoy the process of making and eating "good" food. And StuntMom, we've been eating whole wheat bread (no more of the white) since the beginning of the new year. Still haven't cracked!
just watched Fast Food Nation, it's an impactful flick to say the least... earlier today i passed up a sausage mcmuffin because of it. Evidently it is worth passing up fast food for more than health reasons.
